Updates – Blog

This blog is the part of the website where people can read and leave messages. We also post the old fashioned way – by putting printed notices in our noticeboard near the poppy patch by the top Shepherds Lane gate.

As we are often short of Pals to do taks on the mound on Sundays, the Pals were given a few different options to change the dates of sessions. There will therefore be no Pals session on November3rd.

An invitation to join us – on the first and third thursdays of each month, possibly excepting the winter months when the ground can be very too slippery for many tasks. We hope a few Pals will be able to make a session on 7th November, and following that on 21st.

MERCIAN WOODLAND BIODIVERSITY PROJECT

MERCIAN WOODLAND BIODIVERSITY PROJECT

The Woodland trust, through funding for a three year project by Severn Trent, are helping us to improve management of the woodland on Paddock Mound. As part of this, we are currently getting quotes to submit to the trust for tree felling on the steep western slope of the mound – behind the top pool. The trees to be felled are sycamores. These are self set multi stemmed trees which have large heavy leafed canopies which cut out light and restrict the variety of plant life at lower levels, and also together they affect the distant views which used to be a main feature from the top of the mound. Their felling will encourage new species – we can plant some native flowering trees which have a much lower finished height. The felled wood will also be piled as eco piles which will be a much needed source of dead wood, to increase invertebrate and small mammal habitat, shelter and overwintering sites. look out for information when the dates for felling are known, on our noticeboard and facebook page.
